Multi National Force Iraq
|
|
Formed in 2003, Multi-National Force-Iraq (MNF-I) is charged with spearheading the fight against all those who oppose freedom in Iraq .
As a fully-integrated, multi-mission force, MNF-I oversees the elimination of foreign terrorist and insurgent elements, the training and mentoring of Iraqi security forces, and the management of reconstruction efforts in Iraq , which includes building roads, schools, hospitals, and related infrastructure. Working in close partnership with Iraqi military and police personnel, civilian leaders, and everyday citizens, MNF-I commanders and troops continue to move Iraq forward towards greater national sovereignty and independence.
This coin salutes the brave men and women of MNF-I, who serve as the tip of the spear in America 's global war on terrorism. The obverse design replicates the MFN-I patch, consisting of a winged-bull, crossed scimitars, palm fronds, and a seven-pointed star overhead. The winged bull is drawn from Assyrian mythology and recalls Iraq 's glorious past; the scimitars represent strength and protection while the palm fronds below symbolize prosperity. The star represents the seven major ethnic groups of Iraq and the promise of unity in the future.
The reverse features an outline of Iraqi designed to resemble the Iraqi national flag and bears the phrase "United Commitment," symbolic of the shared mission of Iraqi and allied forces. Struck in a brass alloy and brushed with an antique bronze finish, this unique crest-shaped coin is imbued with enamel accents on both sides 1 ¾ inch x 2 1/8 inch crest Brass with Enamel
